A FAMILIAR SIGHT WITH A DIFFICULT STORY
At Peace River Wildlife Center, successful wildlife rehabilitation doesn’t end when an animal is ready for release; it begins a new chapter in the wild. Recently, several local partners have opened their properties to help us return rehabilitated patients to their natural habitats.
These partnerships are a wonderful example of community collaboration in action. By providing safe release sites, our partners are contributing directly to local conservation efforts and demonstrating the power of a community working toward a common goal. We are grateful to everyone who has stepped forward to help our patients return home. • Brown Pelicans catch fish by plunge-diving into the water.
• Their wingspans can exceed seven feet.
• Adults can weigh up to eight pounds.
• Brown Pelicans are commonly found along Florida’s coastlines, bays and estuaries.

An injured fawn brought to PRWC was discovered to be a nonnative Axis deer, not a native white-tailed deer. Her case highlights why correctly identifying an animal as native, nonnative, invasive, or domestic is essential when determining treatment, release, and long-term placement.
SMALL OWLS, BIG OPPORTUNITY
The new Education Center will provide a larger, thoughtfully designed habitat for PRWC’s Eastern Screech Owls and Burrowing Owl, where visitors can learn more about these small but remarkable Florida species.
The Small Owls habitat is one of several naming opportunities still available throughout the new campus. By selecting a naming opportunity, you can help create a lasting home for PRWC’s resident wildlife while leaving a meaningful legacy at the new Education Center.
